   Music and Youth Development
Summary:
   YouthBEAT is a research and evaluation project designed to assess the impact of music participation on youth development. Approximately 100 students from the Berklee City Music Program in Boston and network sites across the country are participating in the research. This research opportunity would be focused on data gathered on youth perceptions of musical competence, concepts of practice, and family involvement. Data are gathered through interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The Summer Scholar would code and analyze data from the project, participate in interviewing students at Berklee City Music in Boston, and contribute to a written paper on the relationship of family involvement to musical practice and concepts.
