Opportunity:
   Art worlds and social networks
Summary:
   Models of networks and maps of social fields together reveal social structures in art worlds. Central questions include: • how social network position facilitates or inhibits creativity • how musical alliances define subgroups and conflict, and shift over time • how musicians’ careers are shaped by their network position and trajectory • how different kinds of musicians occupy different positions in the social field.

   background in sociology; knowledge of arts preferable. Willingness to learn tools of social network modeling.
